Physical Therapy for the Pregnant Patient
Most women present with pain during some point in their pregnancy due to:
· Postural changes (increased cervical/lumbar lordosis and thoracic kyphosis)
· Lengthening of abdominal and pelvic floor tissues
· Increased weight
Physical Therapy can help pregnant women who are experiencing pain. At Rocky Mountain Physical Therapy we have experienced PT’s to work with your pregnant patients.
Therapy may consists of:
· Teaching safe core stabilization exercises to optimize posture
· Manual therapy to decrease soft tissue restriction and improve pelvic alignment
· Education on safe exercises and on what to avoid
· Recommendations on appropriate pregnancy support belts
· Aquatic therapy
